Languages spoken in Poland: Polish.

Poland is a state in Central Europe and a member state of the European Union. In the Middle Ages and early modern times, Poland was one of the most powerful states in Europe. Weakened by internal strife, the country was gradually annexed in three divisions by the neighboring states of Prussia, Austria, and Russia.

From 1795 to 1918 there was no longer an independent Poland. It was not until 1918 that Poland regained its independence. The country suffered great losses during the Second World War. The boundaries were also redefined. After the Second World War, the country belonged to the Eastern Bloc until the fall of communism in 1989.

After the political changes, Poland underwent major political, social and economic changes, including the introduction of a democratic system and the transition from a centrally planned economy to a free market economy.

Poland has been a member of the European Union since 2004 and is a driving economic force in Central Europe.
